Hikes on Manitoulin - Ice Lake Trail
Ice Lake Trail is a beautiful 25 acre reserve with a 10 km trail through it. It begins with wetland and climbs the Escarpment slowly through deciduous and then maple bush. The trail is rated as moderately difficult. It is on Ice Lake Road just a little past the bridge, off Highway 542B (or as people on Manitoulin call it - the Spring Bay highway). Join EBC for a hike on June 5 or July 10. Hikes are from 11 am to 4 pm. Bring a lunch, dress for the weather, and wear good hiking boots. Email redhawk at onlink.net if you'd like to come.
- June 5 (Sunday): During the week of A Taste of Manitoulin, Linda and Chuc Willson will be leading a hike and spring clean up. Bring work gloves, pruning tools if you have some, and protective clothing.
- July 10 (Sunday): EBC director and naturalist Bob Barnett is joining Linda and Chuc Willson and will be guiding the hike.
Fossil Hill Reserve
Fossil Hill Trail is rich in life from 400 million years ago. Roy Jeffery and Bob Barnett will lead hikers through the Fossil Hill Reserve. This trail is an easy 4 km walk past exposed rock faces and overhangs. It is part of the Ontario Trail Council system. You can add more on our new side trail.
- September 18 (Sunday) at 1:00 pm.
The reserve is located at New England Road and Highway 6, Manitoulin Island. This page about Fossil Hill Trail from the Council has more information about the location and trail.
