102 reserves, 8,151 acres!!!
New Conservation Agreement near Rockwood. Charlotte Mudge has donated an agreement over 20 acres of wetland and forest right off Highway 7 to allow public access and long term conservation despite the overall industrial zoning establihed by the municipality.
MISERY BAY PARK BIGGER EBC has just acquired a new 25 acre reserve that joins an outlier part of the provincial park to the main park This adds to EBC's previous two reserves right beside the park and brings our total acreage there to 100.
Monarch Festival emerging EBC has booked the movie "Four Wings and a Prayer" and confirmed Jarmo Jalava will be performing on the evening of August 27 at the visitor centre, Bruce National Park. There will be a social hour with nibblies after the park closes for regular business. We've secured 200 tags so you can help identify the migration route during the weekend. Jarmo will conduct a nature walk on Sunday morning.
EBC celebrates its 100th reserve. It added another six reserves in the 12 months up to January 2011. EBC now protects 12.5 km shoreline, and 59 rare and endangered species.
On Manitoulin's south shore, the Gallagher family donated 500 meters of classic shoreline ranging from cobble beach to the sand shoreline which protects Pitcher's Thistle.
The Macdonald family donated 121 acres protecting a km of South Saugeen River near Ayton. We had the grand opening in September 2010. Jim Penner of Saugeen Conservation took a group by hay wagon across the fields to the entrance to the trail along the river.
Gunter Springer created his seventh nature reserve by donating a conservation agreement on more property near Chatsworth, Ontario. He has planted 135,000 trees on his properties..
EBC received a two-year EcoAction grant from Environment Canada to inform landowners about the opportunities for financial benefits from protecting their land. The program is underway.

Every dollar buys ten square feet of land along Manitoulin's south shore. You can give a customized certificate to friends and family as a holiday present. One friend of EBC gave certificates for $250 (2,500 square feet) to a couple for a wedding present. A map showing the location of the donated property accompanies the certificate with instructions for visiting the property.
