Our social calendar is humming and we need a social planner. Property openings need to be publicized, champagne and ribbons for cutting need to be purchased and volunteers heartily thanked. Organizing parties to celebrate our successes is the fun part.
So many conferences, so little time! We need eyes and ears to keep us on top of the latest conservation developments throughout our region and a spokesperson to spread the good new of conservation being done by the EBC.
Attending events as an EBC rep, developing working relationships with like-minded groups, and establishing media contacts are vital to keeping us in the forefront of the conservation movement
Our maps are a guaranteed crowd pleaser at all events: "Hey! that's where my farm is!" "I've walked that section of your trail!" "Where's that waterfall that's on your brochure?"
They need to be kept up to date, property maps have to be created on a regular basis and the latest external mapping data needs to be added. You can indulge your inner map lover and help with one of our most pressing requirements.
Sunny days spent tramping through secluded forests, hiking along deserted Great Lake shoreline, climbing through rock outcrops - yes, those are some of the duties of a property Steward.
Our responsibility is to oversee the condition of our nature reserves on a regular basis and to ensure they are maintained in their pristine condition. Our property stewards walk the properties, prepare reports on their condition and work with the other stewards.
Enthusiasm, encouragement and innovation are what keep our volunteers happy and active. We need someone to match volunteer skills with EBC needs, find new recruits - enlist your Facebook crowd! - and recognize the sterling efforts of all our volunteers.
